บทคัดย่อ (EN): Pilot-scale experiment of natural rubber processing wastewater treatment was conducted in Vietnam and Thailand. In the case of experiment in Vietnam, ribbed sheet (RSS) wastewater was used for test. On the other hand, concentrated latex (CL) wastewater which contained high concentration of organic matter, nitrogen and sulfate was used for test in Thailand. A pilot scale system consisting of two- staged up-flow anaerobic sludge blanket (UASB) and down-flow hanging sponge (DHS) reactor has been installed in each factory. As the results of RSS wastewater treatment experiment, a COD removal efficiency of 91.7% was achieved under the operating conditions of 1.0 kgCOD/ (m3.d) of organic loading rate (OLR) during the start-up period. 91.3% of soluble COD was removed by 1st UASB and 49.9% of total COD was removed by both 1st and 2nd UASB. It suggested that 1st UASB mainly degraded soluble organic matter and 2 nd UASB rolled as sedimentation tank. In addition, 58.7% of nitrogen removal was confirmed by circulation of DHS effluent to1st UASB from the results of a laboratory scale experiment for standard Vietnamese rubber processing wastewater treatment. On the other hand, COD removal efficiency of 95.9 % was achieved under the operating condition of 1.0 kg COD/(m3.d) of OLR for CL wastewater treatment. In the 1st UASB, organic compound was degraded by both methane producing bacteria and sulfate-reducing bacteria. In addition, more than 80% of sulfate was removed in the 1st UASB and sulfide inhibition for 2nd UASB was relieved. Therefore, the 2nd UASB kept high COD removal efficiency. The DHS reactor rolled as post treatment system. For the treatment of the natural rubber processing wastewater, two-staged UASB-DHS system can reduce more than 90% of both power consumption and greenhouse gases emission from present wastewater treatment system. Moreover, the methane energy recovered from both stages of the UASB is possible to cover all the electricity for operation of the UASB-DHS system. Also, the DHS reactor (a part of a pilot-scale system) is possible to be as a post treatment for the present anaerobic lagoon system for reduction of both power consumption and greenhouse gases emission.
