บทคัดย่อ (EN): Nowadays, most modern rubber plantations are composed of two different genetic components: a scion grafted onto a rootstock. Scions are selected for their quantity of rubber yield and their resistance to abiotic stresses for many years. But rootstocks are seldom selected in cultivating planting materials. Previously study indicated that the rubber trees with good rootstock, characterized as ‘strong’ vigor of growing ability, presents the strong grow ability, high yield and more resistant to stress. Rootstocks supply the rubber trees with the root system, which is very important with respects to the water and nutrients absorption. So the characteristic of root hydraulic conductance is an absolutely necessary parameter to estimate the rootstock with its vigor and resistance to abiotic stress, even to estimate the vigor and resistance to abiotic stress of the whole rubber trees. In this study, we assessed drought resistance of Hevea brasiliensis seedlings of PB86, PR107, RRIM600 and GT1 with the parameters of root hydraulic conductance and root system vigor, the result showed that water stress had significant influence on root hydraulic conductivity and root system vigor with the prolongation of the water stress time, and that root hydraulic conductivity was decreased gradually, but root system vigor increased firstly, and then decreased. Based on the decreasing degree of root hydraulic conductivity and root system vigor under water stress the drought-resistant and adaptive capacity of GT1 was comparatively strong under water stress, followed by PR107, RRIM600 and PB86 in order. This order is completely consistent to the comprehensive evaluation of drought resistance of the four seedling clones with seven drought resistance related physiological indices, which is leaf relative water content, relative electrical conductivity, free proline accumulation, content of dissolvable sugar, content of dissolvable protein, content of malondialchehyche (MDA), the activity of SOD. So, we think that root hydraulic conductance, which is a comprehensive character of many physiological parameters, is a very good parameter of accessing rootstock drought resistance.
