บทคัดย่อ (EN): Most of the concentrated latex factories in the South of Thailand discharge treatedwastewater that contains high levels of nitrogen to nearby rivers or canals leading to waterpollution problems. A study of a land treatment system was conducted to treat and utilizenitrogen in treated wastewater from a concentrated latex factory. The experimental pilot-scaleland treatment system was constructed at the Faculty of Engineering, Prince of SongklaUniversity, Hat Yai Campus. It consisted of water convolvulus (Ipomea aquatics, I. Reptans),tropical carpet grass (Axonopus compresus (Skrartz) Beav.), para grass (Brachiaria mutica)and control unit (no plantation). The treated wastewater from the stabilization pond system ofthe selected concentrated latex factory in Songkhla was used to irrigate each experimental unitat application rates of 4, 5, 6 and 10 crnfweek. Influent and effluent from the experimentalunits were analyzed for TKN, NH3-N, Org-N, NO<-N, NOi-N, BOD5, sulfate, pH and EC.The land treatment system resulted in a high removal efficiency for nitrogen. Experimentalruns at higher water application rates provided lower removal efficiency. Tropical carpet grassprovided higher removal efficiency than other units for all parameters. This indicates that thehigher density of plants in the land treatment system enhances removal efficiency. In addition,mass balance of nitrogen transformation was conducted. It revealed that plant uptake was themajor mechanism for nitrogen removal in plant units. In the control unit, the major nitrogenremoval mechanism was soil accumulation.
