บทคัดย่อ (EN): Native chickens are free range family farm backyard raised chickens. These native chickens have acquired unusual hardness as they are raised under adverse conditions without adequate shelter and vaccination receiving only poor and scanty feeds. This leads to slow growth – one year to reach full size and small size and fewer eggs in smaller less frequent clunchs. These family chickens support the family in more than one way with eggs and meat for home consumption, bartering and sale. This Thai Indigenous Chicken (TIC) supply chain from farm to table is very efficient in the local distribution and earns high prices but very inefficient in terms of large scale national supply chain providing native chicken to consumers in Bangkok and other metropolitan areas. Native chicken are a product where the demand is higher than the supply as the consumer perceives as higher quality due to the toughness of the birds. Farmers and farm coops are currently lacking behind in ways to increase production while maintaining product quality and nature. Commercial poultry production methods mixing pure breed and native back-yard chickens result in a different hybrid product. This paper looks at the Thai Indigenous Chicken (TIC) supply chain issues from a logistics standpoint and compares it to global industry best practices.
