บทคัดย่อ: The application of parasites as biological tags for freshwater fish population discrimination in southern Thailand were carried out. Forty-five stations from four watershed areas were studied, viz. Tapi (18 stations), Pak-panang (16 stations), Pattani (6 stations) and Ko-lok (5 stations) watersheds. Various fish species were sampled and identified. There were 55 fish species from sevenorders,19families, viz.Cypriniformes, Elopiformes, Osteoglossiformes, Perciformes, Siluriformes, Synbranchiformes และ Tetraodontiformes.Cyprinidae had the highest variety (23 species)followed byBagridae (6species),Channidae (4 species), Mastacembelidae (4 species)Balitoridae (3 species), Clariidae (2species), whilst the other 13 families composed of single fish species, each. Almost fish samples were infected with parasites, especially monogeneans which having more variation of species diversity (33 species). Dactylogyrus seemed to be the most dominant genus which having (10 species) species which could infect the wide range of fish host species, whereas another parasitic groups contained single species, Digenea, Cestoda, Nematodaand Acanthocephala. Comparatively, parasitic distribution in Pak-panang basin was considered greater than that of the other areas. The data suggested that monogeneans could be the appropriate parasite in using as the biological tag according more species diversity, high degree of host specificity and stable occurrence.
