บทคัดย่อ (EN): The objective of this study was to examine usage of synthetic astaxanthin to enhance skin color of blood parrot cichlids. Blood parrot cichlids were cultured with diets containing astaxanthin with the concentration of 0, 50, 100, 150 and 200 mg/kg feed for 2 months and their skin color was checked by using SalmoFan every month throughout the study period. It was found that the skin color values were significantly different among experimental groups (P<0.05). The skin color values of fish fed with diets containing astaxanthin with the concentration of 0, 50, 100, 150 and 200 mg/kg feed were 28.33, 31.00, 31.33, 31.67 and 32.67, respectively on the first month of experiment as well as 28.67, 30.00, 30.67, 31.00 and 31.67, respectively on the second month of experiment. After cultivating fish with astaxanthin supplemented diet for 2 months, fish were fed with a basal diet (no astaxanthin) for another 1 month. It was found that the highest skin color value was obtained from fish fed with diets containing astaxanthin with the concentration of 200 mg/kg feed, which was 31.33. However, astaxanth in supplementation in diets had no impact on weight, length and water quality. This data indicated that astaxanth in was the good colorant for blood parrot cichlids and astaxanthin supplement at 200 mg/kg feed helped blood parrot cichlids to develop skin color, giving the highest skin color value among groups.
