บทคัดย่อ (EN): This study was aimed to investigate free range system on production performance and diet cost of indigenous chickens (Pradu-Hangdum). Twenty farmers were randomly allotted into 2 treatments according to Completely Randomized Design (CRD) as raising on intensive system group (IS) and free range system group (FR). Both groups were fed commercial diet with same quality (17% crude protein, Metabolizable energy: ME 2,850 kcal/ kg) from 4 to 12 weeks of age. But FR group was fed commercial diet with rice bran (3:1 ratio) (final crude protein was 14.52). The results showed that weight of chickens in IS group was higher than FR group (P<0.05), mortality rate was lower than FR group (P<0.05) (3.98and5.56%, respectively), average daily gain (ADG) was higher than FR group (P<0.05) (16.42and 11.98g/day, respectively) and carcass weight was higher than FR group (P<0.05) but there were no difference in carcass percentage (P>0.05). FR group had lower production cost than IS group (P<0.05) (71.28 and 79.15 Baht/kg, respectively). Pradu-Hangdum chickens reared in free range system had production performance lower than chickens reared in intensive system but no difference in carcass percentage resulted with production cost lower than chickens reared in intensive system.
