บทคัดย่อ (EN): The Rubber-based farming system (RBFS) had been advocated through community participation and was proven to improve farm productivity and profitability in Southern Philippines. The involvement of people’s organizations in the implementation process facilitated the technology diffusion and the operationalization of livelihood projects in the community, and their sustainability. The integration of other crops in rubber plantation gave significant production and income during the 1st five years of the plantation. Harvesting of rubber commence on the 5th year in RBFS, while in farmers’ practice of monocrop rubber harvesting starts on the 6th year. Average yield of RBFS is 2,269.2 kg/ha/yr dry rubber while 2,084 kg/ha dry rubber in farmers’ practice. Farmers’ net income reached Php 393,547.00 (US$ 9,152) with Return on Capital (ROC) of 299.88% while monocrop rubber is only Php 249,996.00 (US$ 5,813.9) and an ROC of 150.61% RBFS obtained excellent Marginal Benefit Cost Ratio (MBCR) of 2.99 As of 2013, there are 869 smallholder farmers in the region and adjacent areas who adopted the technology. These farmers adopted and/or followed the RBFS planting distance, availed and planted high quality planting materials, and acquired rubber budsticks utilizing the unwanted branches of the rubber trees in the RBFS farms. Family labor is primarily utilized in various farm activities, while three additional jobs per hectare per year are hired to complement activities on production and plantation maintenance.
