บทคัดย่อ (EN): The characteristic of monthly mean current circulations in the Andaman Sea near Thailand and in the Gulf of Thailand are simulated by using an adaptive mesh to coordinate with the shallow water equations. Since the mesh can adapt to the shape of calculation domain, and can adapt to the spatial distribution of physical variables. It means that the grid points of adaptive mesh at boundary are coincident with the boundary of physical domain. The study domain covered 94 E - 108 E in longitude and O N -19 N in latitude, which was divided into two sub domains i.e. from 94 E - 104 E in longitude and O N -19 N in latitude for calculating the monthly mean currents in Andaman Sea and from 99 E - 108 E in longitude and O N - 13.8 N in latitude for calculating the monthly mean currents in the Gulf of Thailand. The grid resolution are 0.25x0.25. The climatological parameter used in this work are taken from ECMWF and topography from DBDB5. The simulated monthly mean currents in the Andaman and in the Gulf of Thailand are classified into three types. The first type is influenced by the Southwest monsoon during May to September, while the second type is influenced by the Northeast monsoon during November to March. The third type current appear in the transition month i.e. October and April. During May to September, the wind blow from southwest to Thailand which affect the current both in Andaman and in the gulf of Thailand. In Andaman the current from the India Ocean flow to Myanmar and Thailand. The current flow northward along the south western coast Thailand. Some current stream flow in to the Strait of Malacca. In the Gulf of Thailand the current flow along the southeastern coast northward to the upper Gulf then tum flow along Rayong coast downward and flow out to the South China Sea. There are some clockwise current in the middle ofthe Gulf. During the Northeast monsoon period i.e. November to March, the wind blows from north-east to west which affects the currents in the Andaman and the Gulf of Thailand as follows: In the Andaman, the currents flow along Myanmar coast and southwestern coast of Thailand down southward and meet the current come from the Strait of Malacca and then flow out to Andaman Sea (part of India Ocean). In the Gulf of Thailand, the currents from the South China Sea flow in to the Gulf and flow along southeastern coast of Thailand northward to the upper Gulf then tum and flow downward along Rayong coast to the south. There are some clockwise current in the middle of the Gulf. During the transition period, i.e. April and October, in the Andaman, the currents flow along the Myanmar coast and south-western coast of Thailand downward to the south and join the current come from The Strait of Malacca and then flow out to the Andaman Sea. In the Gulf of Thailand, the current come from Malaysia and flow along the southeastern coast of Thailand northward to the upper of the Gulf and tum back and flow out to the South China Sea. There are some clockwise current circulation near Surat-Thani, Phathalung and Nakhon-Si-Thammarat. The simulated monthly mean current circulations are in good agreement with observation.
