บทคัดย่อ (EN): At present Natural Rubber (NR) prices are at quite high level and it is hoped that with healthy demand, NR prices will continue to remain remunerative so that rubber smallholders’ income will be improved. A case study had been conducted in South Sumatra Province, Indonesia, with the aim at analyzing the improvement of Indonesian rubber smallholders’ welfare as a result of increasing of NR prices that had been experienced by farmers recent years. The study also observed changes towards smallholders’ agricultural investment behavior. Data were collected from 44 sample households located in Batumarta District, South Sumatra, Indonesia. The results showed that farmers’ income increased almost double (from IDR 47 million to 85 million per year) after NR prices increased. This has led to the increasing of farmers’ expenditure for purchasing consumable goods, savings and investments. There was a tendency that after the increasing of NR prices, farmers’ investment for purchasing rubber garden, fertilizers, and other agricultural inputs were also increased. The study concluded that the increasing of farmers household’s income at present will affect the improvement of smallholders’ welfare in the long run, as part of the income had been utilized for productive investment.
