บทคัดย่อ (EN): Two pot experiments were conducted in a greenhouse, Faculty of Agriculture, Khon Kaen University, Khon Kaen, Thailand in June 2014. The objectives of this research were to investigate the effects of bud management and stem cutting length on shoot and root growth of three cassava varieties under controlled conditions. In the experiment 1, three cassava varieties (Kasetsart 50, Huaybong 60 and Rayong 11) and two stem cutting lengths (15 cm and 30 cm) were assigned as a main plot and subplot, respectively, with bud management (removal and non-removal) assigned as sub-subplot. The results demonstrated that bud removal on stem cuttings significantly increased fibrous root number, root dry weight and root length over non-bud removal measured at 21 days after planting (DAP). In contrast, bud removal on stem cuttings significantly decreased shoot fresh weight and shoot dry weight of cassava over non-bud removal. Root number, root dry weight and root length were significantly higher for stem cuttings lengths of 30 cm as compared with 15 cm stem cuttings length. Conversely, stem cuttings length of 30 cm demonstrated significantly decreased shoot fresh weight and shoot dry weight over 15 cm stem cuttings length. In the present experiment, root and shoot growth were not significantly different among the three cassava varieties at 21 DAP. In the Experiment 2, a split plot design with four replications was employed. Three cassava varieties (Rayong 7, Huaybong 80 and Rayong 11) were assigned as main-plots. Two bud managements (slitting and removal) in comparison with non-bud management were assigned as sub-plots. The results indicated that slitting buds significantly increased fibrous root number, root dry weight and root length over bud removal and non-bud management. In contrast, the non-management of buds significantly increased shoot fresh weight and shoot dry weight over the buds removal and bud slitting at 21 DAP. Rayong 11 was significantly higher than Huaybong 80 and Rayong 7 for fibrous root number, root dry weight and root length, whereas Huaybong 80 had significantly higher shoot fresh weight than did Rayong 11 and Rayong 7 at 21 DAP.
