บทคัดย่อ (EN): The NR producing countries recommend clones to the growers on a regular basis. In some countries recommendations are made every five years while in others every four years. The clones are recommended after extensive trials in the different parts of the country. The basis of the clone recommendations is to obtain vigorous growth, high yield and resistance to both wind and diseases. The soil conditions are important and in most countries the soil maps produced by the government provide a good guide. In the early 70s, Malaysia introduced the concept of Enviromax planting recommendations which combine all the important factors and the suitability of a particular clone in a particular locality. The limited number of clones available for the growers pose a major constraint. Climate change is now a very important consideration in clonal recommendations. The IRRDB Board has recently approved an international clone exchange programme which will make available a total of 49 clones bred in 12 member institutes for planting in the IRRDB member countries. Included in the 49 clones are clones bred in Brazil by CIRAD-Michelin for producing SALB tolerant clones. This historic development provides an excellent opportunity to the member countries to plant the clones in the different environment and select the best for recommendation to the growers. It is well known that Hevea clones sometimes perform differently in the different countries. The IRRDB international clone exchange programme has opened new opportunities for testing the concept of Enviromax planting recommendation to benefit the growers.
