บทคัดย่อ (EN): Feasibility study of pearls production from a big freshwater mussel (Cristaria plicata) which have anatomy that can produce pearls moreover, pearl shell layers are high lustrous and thick of mantle tissues. It can be used to produce fresh water pearls by the tissue transplanted. It can found in still and flow natural water. This research was conducted shells from natural water sources to study tissue transplant for a period of 11 months, and to study the production of shellfish. The results showed that the shells can produce pearls similar to a typical freshwater pearl. A pearl are luster and has shape similar to pearl nacre freshwater species. The colors of the pearl are light pink to yellow and some they have light purple. According to the nature of the inner shell are round pearl and rough surface. Average sizes of pearl are 1.26 mm (length) and 0.64-0.82 mm. (width). This study also found that the shells can create pearls on the number of pieces of tissue are transplanted into 12 pieces to one subscript (6 piece each). Shells can create pearls up to 77%. The survival rate has did not differ significantly (P>0.05) at 90%. So, this research can be preliminarily concluded that Cristaria plicata can produce pearls similar to general freshwater pearl. It should be developed to further research into the livestock’s to the public revenue as a career.
