บทคัดย่อ (EN): In order to experience the growth, cost - return, and potential environmental impact of fish cage culture in the Sai BuriRiver, Nile tilapia cage raising was assessed.A direct in situ observation method has been used.Twenty fish cages in Ban Batabara and Ban Tabing of Sai Buri district were investigatedand farmers were interviewed from January first to the end of April 2010. Two hundred and eighty five floating cages with a size of 5x5x2.5 cubic meterswerecommonly used. Fingerlings at the average size of 10.33 cm in length and 31.89 gram in weightwere stocked at the density per cage of 2,500 individualsfor 120 days.Average weightgain of 2.71 gram per day, the survival rate of 85.41%, the feed conversion ratio of 1.5 and yield of 764.6 kg per cage at the average marketable size of 400 (200-1,050) grams, were obtained. The average cost per kilogram was 42.91 Baht (feed cost of 76.8%), the operating profit was 15 Baht, and the benefit of investing was 34.97%. Water quality monitoring (water depth, temperature, transparency, turbidity, salinity, pH, dissolved Oxygen, hardness, alkalinity, ammonia, nitrite, total nitrate, total phosphate and total phosphorus in sediment)were monthly analyzed and show that overall water quality parameters are ranked in appropriated water quality criteria for aquatic living. Pearson's correlation showed no relationship (p>0.05) between fish growth, monthly growth, both body length and weight, and water quality parameters. We concluded that the environmental impacts of fish cage culture in the Sai Buri River is belownatural carrying capacity and be able to increase the number of fish cage.
