บทคัดย่อ (EN): The rubber industry is an important sector in rural development specifically in Mindanao. Provinces such as North Cotabato and Zamboanga Peninzulaare considered the country’s haven of rubber. At present, the country has a total production area of 135,945 hectares with a 1.8 million hectares potential for expansion. Production volume for the past years had an average annual growth rate of 3.22%. This helped sustained the domestic consumption of primary rubber processors and industrial manufacturers. In Region XII, the province of Cotabato is the leading rubber producer in terms of natural rubber and propagated rubber seedings. Recent study on Socio-Economics, Production, and Marketing Practices of Rubber Nurseries in Region XII was conducted and showed that majority of the rubber nurseries were found in the province of North Cotabato. The study included the attributes of rubber nurseries and its influence on the income of nursery operators. Majority of rubber nurseries were on single proprietorship, small-sized, not accredited and with an average initial capitalization of only P 50,000.00. Moreover, rubber nursery operators propagate not more than 50,000 seedlings annually, using seeds as their planting material with RRIM 600 as the most commonly propagated clone. Seedlings were usually sold in a year or less, with as estimated 50% of the total seedlings held for longer time. As to the marketing practices, seedlings were usually sold to individuals residing within the province, specifically Cotabato Province. Seedlings were picked up by the buyers, and paid on a spot cash basis. Results of the study indicated the need of the nursery operators for assistance in acquiring seeds of high germination, trainings and seminars from experts to revitalize rubber production in the area in order to develop and produce high value and quality budded rubber seedlings. Among the different nursery attributes included in the study, only the clone RRIM 600 significantly influence at 5% level the income of the nursery operators. Majority of the rubber nurseries in the area were not accredited thus, it is recommended that Bureau of Plant and Industry (BPI) should require them to apply for an accreditation.
