บทคัดย่อ (EN): Plant pathogenic fungus Botryodiplodia theobromae Pat caused dieback on immature rubber plantation, first detected on rubber tree in Vietnam by Vincens in 1921. The first outbreak of this disease occurred in 1998 in traditional rubber growing area and affected on large scale. The disease especially caused serious damage on both immature and tapping plantations in Dau Tieng Rubber Company. However, since then the disease was mild and sporadic occurrence. Recently, this disease has been widely recorded in vast of rubber plantations in traditional areas but sporadically in non-traditional areas. Disease symptoms are various depending on stages of rubber tree. The fungus attacks on stock of seedling in nursery, budded stump and bud wood, and causes dieback of bud patch. The disease can occurs anywhere on the brown bark from the collar to branches. Serious infection of immature stage induces growth retardation and even the whole tree death. Surveying disease incidence on some rubber clones at different ages at two rubber plantations (Binh Loc and Tuc Trung) in 2009. Results revealed that percentage of disease incidence varied from 44.0% to 99.47%. Experiments were carried out on immature rubber plantation with 5 years old (on clones PB 260 and RRIV 4) to observe effect of the disease severity on girth growth. Results showed that girths of rubber trees which were rating score of infection from 0-2 had significant different bigger than that of 3-5 score of infected trees, the higher disease severity of the tree the smaller girth observed, while the bark thickness was not clearly different in these experiments. For tapping trees, the pathogen damages the latex vessel. Severe infected tree causes low latex production and even tapping panel dryness. Similar trend of disease impact recorded based on different rating score of severity on latex production on rubber tapping plantation. Fungicides are including hexaconazole, tebuconazol, propiconazole, hexaconazole, and compounds of carbendazim and thiram, hexaconazole and carbendazim had high efficacy in fungus inhibition in laboratory and control the disease in the field.
