บทคัดย่อ (EN): The objective of this study was to develop preliminary models in Automated Land Evaluation System (ALES) interface to perform suitability assessment for irrigated paddy cultivation in Radhi watershed. To achieve the objective, two preliminary models were developed based on twelve land qualities suggested by Land Development Department (Land Use Planning Division, 1996) and tested to determine its applicability in the study area. Model 1 was developed based on five most relevant land qualities (LQs) erosion hazard, water availability, nutrient availability, ability to retain water on the soil surface and nutrient retention. The remaining LQs which do not have significant effect on the final result were discarded. Model 2 was modified from model 1 by omitting some assumed irrelevant LQs erosion hazard and water availability. The evaluation result from both the models was compared with the yield data. The findings showed that the suitability classes generated from model 1 do not correspond well with the yield data, which indicates the result to be unsatisfactory. The suitability classes generated from model 2 slightly agrees with the yield data thus intimating the result to be more suitable for executing land suitability assessment in the study area as compared to model 1. However, the model still requires improvement in the future to attain acceptable result. At this stage of research, the recommendation for future research includes(i) modification of the preliminary models with additional land qualities such as climatic hazard and (ii) improvement of land use requirement (LUR) in the knowledge base by improving factor rating on the LQs like nutrient availability and subsequently improving the reliability of soil chemical properties in the database. This is because the soil chemical property inherits high variations as compared to physical soil properties.
