บทคัดย่อ (EN): It is revealed that the water quality in Mae Moh Reservoir (down streamreceiver) was deteriorated by mine drainage and power station effluent. This study aims toinvestigate both water quantity and quality through a water model for water managementand reducing environmental impacts in Mae Moh project area, which is located in MaeMoh district, Lampang province, northern Thailand. A water model was constructed forprediction (from 2001 - onward) on the basis of water balance and continuity equations topresent monthly and annual water flow, concentration and chemical load of Total DissolvedSolid (TDS) and Sulfate (SO:-), which are significant water pollutants. The water modelwas constructed from databases, which were based on the data and information in 1996-2000. The model validation was performed in 2001 by comparing the information of thepredicted model and the actual model. The result has shown that at 95% ("2SD)confidence interval, the mean of predicted value and actual value of TDS and 50:- load atMae Moh Reservoir was equalized. It can be concluded that the test result is acceptable andthe water model can be used as a tool for Mae Moh water system management. Accordingto the predicted water model year 2006, Mae Moh mine excess water will be discharged at10.76 Mm / year wait ,p H value of 7.3, TDS and SO- : concentration of 2,547 mg/l and1,803 mg/l, respectively. Mae Moh power station effluent is 14.59 Mm / year waith , p Hvalue of 7.1, TDS and SO:- concentration of 61 0 mg/l and 358 mg/l, respectively. At MaeMoh Reservoir, the outflow is 83.67 Mm / aneda thre concentration of TDS and SO- : willbe as high as 1,501 mg/l and 822 mg/l, respectively in 2006. Mine excess watermanagement measures are recommended according to the following strategy. All mineexcess water should be stored in the dry season. In the wet season, 50% of the volume ofmine excess water should be stored and the other 50% of volume of mine excess watershould be treated at 90% of TDS removal before being discharged down stream. The endresult will be a significant improvement in the quality of water in Mae Moh Reservoir overthe 4 year period. Pollutants in terms of TDS will be reduced from 1,501 mg/l in thebeginning of year 2006 to 975 mg/l at the end of year 2009 or 35 % TDS reduction
