บทคัดย่อ (EN): The aim of this study focused on the feasibility of chicken slaughterhouse management and biohydrogen production potential. Chicken fat waste was generated from slaughterhouse processing (Betagro Co., Ltd) with the amount of 5,827 tonnes in the year 2010. The chicken fat waste was 25% of chicken products. The renewable energy products from the lipid wastes were biogas, biodiesel and biohydrogen. The lipid waste which had potential to produce biogas and biohydrogen was slaughterhouse trench at 604 tonnes. The feasibility of biogas production was calculated based on Schuchardt et al. (1997) and Tritt (1992) in which grease could trap methane gas of 710 liter per dry organic matter weight of grease trap. The biogas capacity calculated was 227,285 m3 and production cost was 213,647 Baht. The profit of converting to biogas was 1,331,312 Baht per year. The feasibility of biodiesel production was estimated based on Kondamudi et al. (2009) by using 31.8 % fat content in chicken fat and biodiesel conversion yield was 76.8 %. The biodiesel production cost was 572,343 Baht and the profit was 4,455,519 Baht per year. The solution to produce renewable energy was biodisel, which showed the higher economic return at 3,124,207 Baht per year than that of biogas production. An Other objective of the study was biohydrogen production in laboratory scale by using industrial lipid waste as substrate. Two methods of pretreatment including saponification and ozonation, were used to pretreat the lipid waste prior to the hydrogen fermentation experiment. Pretreatment with saponification could improve hydrogen gas production, hydrogen production yield and lipid reduction. Results showed that saponification pretreatment could increase hydrogen gas production (10.73 mL or 0.00223 mLg-1 CODremoved) about 2.2 fold compared to that of the non-pretreated lipid (4.92 mL or 0.003 mLg-1 CODremoved. Regarding to the lipid reduction during the hydrogen fermentation, total COD removal in the saponified lipid was 20% higher than that of the non pretreated lipid. The hydrogen production yield of saponification increased 10-times compared to nonpretreated waste lipids. Propionic acids were the predominant products during the hydrogen fermentation in most cases. The low concentration of 50% lipid waste could produce volatile fatty acids than 100% lipid waste concentration.
