บทคัดย่อ (EN): Products of phases 2 and 3 of the Mekong Community of Practice on Rice Breeding were delivered. Those products were validated by marker and phenotype and are now ready for dissemination to farmers. In this proposal, products from Thailand, Laos and Myanmar will be included. This proposal aims not only to disseminate the products but also to make it sustainable. An approach to make the improved Mekong rice mega varieties beneficial and sustainable at the farmer level is to have the farmers involved in selection and growing seed for the next generation. Breeders in selected institutes in Thailand, Laos and Myanmar will be delivering knowledge to farmers in terms of evaluation, selection and seed multiplication with the assistance from Rice Gene Discovery Unit. Through breeder-farmer network, the community of practice on rice breeding will be extended to the farmers. Therefore the impact of developing rice varieties through marker-assisted selection can be greatly enhanced if products can be distributed to farmers in different localities and the increase in income of farmers as well.
