บทคัดย่อ (EN): Improving the high yielding clones of rubber trees (Hevea brasiliensis) using conventional breeding techniques can take long periods of time as much as 25-30 years. High costs, extensive land and labour usage also spent for improving. Therefore, the number countries of the International Rubber Research and Development Board (IRRDB) have come to an agreement to exchange outstanding clones in order to fast track the breeding process as well as reduce the costs involved. Importantly, this can also expand opportunities for smallholder to select more suitable rubber clones for their plantations. The Multilateral Clone Exchange in Hevea is the first ever programme undertaken by the IRRDB. The objectives are: 1) To promote international cooperation and capacity building in the IRRDB member countries for improving the natural rubber industry. And 2) To evaluate performance of all the exchanged clones in different agroclimatic conditions in the member countries. Fifteen IRRDB member countries consist of Cambodia, Cameroon, China, Cote d’Ivorie, France, Guatemala, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Nigeria, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Vietnam agreed to participate the Multilateral Clone Exchange Programme. Fifty-two of outstanding Hevea clones are offered by 12 member countries, Cambodia, Cameroon and Guatemala be recipients only. At least 7 IRRDB Multilateral Clone Exchange Workshops were carried out for discussion since 2012 at Indonesia Thailand Malaysia Sri Lanka Vietnam India and Myanmar. The discussion involved with a note on hastening the whole process of multilateral clone exchange. Minimum 5 meters budwood per clone is required. Moreover, Phytosanitary certificate of the organization as well the Government agency are required for transferring of budwood and expected to start exchanging within 2014. Material Transfer Agreement (MTA) for the Multilateral Clone Exchange among IRRDB member countries also agreed and approved by IRRDB Board since October, 2013 at Sri Lanka and will be signed by directors of IRRDB on November, 2014 at Manila, Philippines. After exchanging, the rubber breeders of IRRDB member countries must respond to the thrust given by IRRDB Board to ensure that the clones are authentic and mix up. Therefore documentation on clonal characteristics for all exchanged clones have been assigned to set as compendium with sustenance of Dr. Ramli Othman. The secondary characteristic (as girth yield and disease resistant) also include in this compendium.
