บทคัดย่อ (EN): This study aims to investigate the feasibility of using waste sludge and bagasscsfrom the sugar industry to produce heating fuel briquettes by using a screw press andhydraulic pressure. The waste sludge has a high density of 3710 kg/m3, which can be usedas a binder. Bagasses have 4,100 kcallkg of heating value that can be used as a solid fuel.The mixing of waste sludge and bagasses in ten ratios (10:0,9:1, 8:2,7:3,6:4,5:5,4:6,3:7,2:8 and 1:9 by volume) were studied. Results revealed that seven ratios (10:0,9:1, 8:2, 7:3,6:4, 5:5 and 4:6) can be briquetted by a screw press. The hydraulic pressure could briquettea higher amount of bagasses than the screw extruder. The ratio of s1udge:bagasses (3:7 byweight equivalent to 1: 35 by volume) were briquetted. The pressures of 80, 90, 100, 110and 120 kglcm2 were used. Results show that the compressive strength of these briquettesincreases with the amount of bagasses. The compressive strength was highest forbriquetting at the pressure of 90 kg/cm2. From the results, it can be concluded that theratios of 6:4, 5:5 and 4:6 by volume were proper for fuel briquettes by screw extruder withtheir heating value of 1,230, 1,839 and 1,958 kcalkg, respectively. Whereas, a ratio of1 :35 by volume or 3:7 by weight heating value of 3,517 with a pressure of 90 kg/cm2 wasproper for fuel briquettes produced by hydraulic press. Therefore, the amount of sludgegenerated by an industry is reduced due to use for production of heating fuel briquertestogether with bagasses. Carbon dioxide is very low. Sulfur dioxide and nitrogen dioxideare nearly zero, which are insignificant levels for pollutants released.
