บทคัดย่อ (EN): The purpose of this survey research is the factors causing land use changes especially to agriculture in the forest areas of the Lower and Middle Mae Taeng Watershed to identify the factors causing land use change by using Geographic Information System (GIS), surveys and questionnaires and analysis with descriptive statistic, linear regression, one-way ANOVA and t-test. The results show that between the years 1997 and 2003, forest land use in 2003 shrunk and covered only 66.47 % of the area. In addition, 6.68 % of the forest has been converted to the agriculture area. The main physical factors affecting the expansion of agricultural areas in forest land use are the distance from water resource and the distance from accessibility with the relationship of about 45.28 and 38.52 % .The main socio-economic factors affecting the expansion of agricultural areas in forest land use are education level, occupation, capital, land ownership in difference with significance at the 0.05 level and the main policy-related factors affecting the expansion of agricultural areas in the forest land use are the watershed class and the conservation forest area with the relationships of about 94.07 and 91.51 % respectively. Land use change descriptions and the suggestions to solve forest encroachment in the study area can be drawn from this work.
