บทคัดย่อ (EN): The TOT project aims to increase NR production area and address the Department of Agriculture’s goal of the utilizing marginal areas and maximize land use towards productivity and sustainability among smallholders particularly the Indigenous People (IPs) to stimulate economic growth. The project made use of Information, Education and Communication (IEC). Information materials for dissemination of rubber technology were prepared and published. Training and seminars were conducted regularly for the farmers. Rubber technologies were communicated through television and radio programs, technology clinics, consultation and visitation of individual farms. To help the program, the DA established the Regional Rubber Research and Training Station at the ancestral domain of Manobo-Matigsalug tribe, which is located in Marahan, Marilog District, Davao City, where wide tracts of land are unproductive because many settlers do not have the skills and the necessary capital. Furthermore, because of long gestation period, the IPs and smallholders are hesitant to grow rubber, hence various rubber-based farming system (RBFS) designs were showcased in the station and in other provinces within Davao Region in Philippines. In this regard, one long season training (7 months) and one short season (1 week) training were conducted for IPs and smallhold farmers in potential areas for rubber, respectively. As a result of the promotional activities, the tribal members and smallhold farmers in the area were encouraged to plant rubber. Moreover, the budding skills acquired by IPs from the long-season training have served their livelihood needs because some private growers hired them to do budding operations in their nurseries. The development projects together with the IEC program conducted in rubber potential areas with support from Local Government Units (LGUs) as well as the distribution of rubber production guide to the farmers have contributed much to the increase of NR production area from 2006 to 2010 by 32%.
