บทคัดย่อ (EN): In the Philippines, rubber production is mostly confined in Mindanao which has the best and uniform climate that brings sufficient rainfall throughout the year suitable for successful rubber production. However, this RDE project in the commercialization of rubber in Quezon Province funded by DA-BAR purportedly paved the way for the introduction of rubber production in the province. In general, Quezon Province is classified under type II climate characterized with no dry season and very pronounced maximum rain period which is different compared with Mindanao. The project was stationed in the town of Lucban, Quezon, approximately 600 km from the capital city, Manila. The town was nestled at the foot of majestic Mt. Banahaw which endowed it with cool weather and intermittent warm conditions throughout the year. Another project was set up in Tagkawayan, Quezon,.The project was aimed to document and assess the propagation and growth of rubber seeds and seedlings, growth and yield performance, pest and diseases problems of rubber trees and the problems (technical, economical, political, etc.) encountered during the conduct of the project. Results showed that rubber grows well in Quezon Province based from the germination and growth performance of most of the rubber plants in demo-farm and in two municipalities in Quezon Province. In terms of percent germination of seeds at different soaking time in plain water significantly affected percent germination of different seed sizes. In Lucban, Quezon the length of shoot produced by two rubber clones tested such as USM 1 and PB 260 was not influenced by dipping the shoot in different concentrations of ANAA. In terms of growth, measurement done after one year revealed that the original girth of 0.5cm and height of 35.54 cm, increased to 2.55 and 1.92 cm, respectively in one year period. Meanwhile , the leaves were seen with fairly unblemished foliage throughout the year though some moderate infections were observed on seedlings in the nursery. In Tagkawayan, Quezon, mean height and mean girth of four rubber clones tested, namely: PB 330, PB 311, PB 260 and RRIM 600 were not significantly different. However, In Lucban, Quezon, five clones, namely PB 330, PB 331, PB 260, RRIM 600 and USM 1 were found to have the same height after two years of growth while their girth was significantly different. The clone PB 330 had the biggest girth as compared with the other four clones tested. As regards pest and diseases of rubber in Quezon Province, only leaf blight was recorded affecting PB 330 and aphids affecting PB 260 clone. Training on natural rubber production technology, expansion of rubber budwood garden, planting of intercrops, and disposal of seedlings and plantable budgrafted seedlings were also conducted. The university continues to propagate seedlings in nursery and the commercialization of rubber production to meet the expected demand surge for planting materials from potential and interested growers in Quezon Province.
