บทคัดย่อ (EN): In this study, the maternal origin and genetic diversity of five Egyptian native chicken (ENC) breeds (six populations) was assessed using the complete mitochondrial (mtDNA) D-loop sequences. Sequences of these chickens were compared with previously described reference haplotypes representing the main clades of chicken. Eighteen haplotypes were observed from 28 polymorphic sites in 1231 bp mtDNA D-loop. A phylogenetic tree (NJ) based on mtDNA sequence was constructed using the eighteen haplotypes of the ENC and the reference chicken haplotypes. Phylogenetic tree showed Egyptian native chicken mtDNA sequences could be assigned into three clades in fourteenclades and probably three maternal lineages. These results suggested that majority of the Egyptian haplotypes were related to the reference sequence that likely originated from the Indian subcontinent, while the minor part of our sequences presumably derive from Southwest China, Southeast Asia and Japan. This study suggested that Egyptian indigenous chickens still had abundant genetic diversity and had originated from multiple maternal lineages, and further conservation efforts were warranted to maintain the diversity.
