บทคัดย่อ (EN): This study was conducted to characterize the socio economic chacteristics of rubber farmers/growers, agronomic and ecological condition of rubber farms as well as the profitability of rubber growing in Mindanao. The study was conducted in Mindanao, covering six provinces namely; Davao del Norte, Bukidnon, Agusan del Sur, Zamboanga Sibugay, Maguindanao and North Cotabato. As for the characteristics of socio-economic characteristics of rubber growers, the study unveiled that majority of (63%) were male with an average of age of 47 years, married, and with a family size range of 4 to 6 members (59%) while few had education up to high school level (28%). Rubber plantation was the primary source of income for them. They were engaged for more than 10 years in rubber farming (50%) with an annual average income of 48,304 Php. Majority (94%) of them self-financed their farm while others borrowed from private individuals (4%). The average frequency of tapping per month of the rubber growers is 15 days with an average kilogram of cup lump per tree of 0.40 kg. Majority of the rubber growers (54%) have not attended any seminars and trainings related to rubber growing and management. In terms of agronomic and ecological characteristics of rubber in Mindanao, majority (90%) of the rubber growers used RRIM 600 clone which were bought from nurseries (61%). Most of the areas planted were clay-silt type of soil (46%) and fine soil texture (68%) with 26-30 °C temperature (58%). Most of the plantation areas of the rubber growers were flat terrain (55%) and rainfall areas were moderate (100%), Fifteen years was the average age of the rubber trees with an average of 433 trees per hectare. Further, it was observed that before a rubber tree can be tapped they have to wait for an average of 6 years. Almost all (89%) of the rubber growers sold their products as cup lumps. Age, educational attainment, occupation and source of financing rubber farming showed a significant relationship with the income of rubber growers. The area, age of rubber, clones, number of trees per hectare, soil type, temperature, soil texture, type of area, source of planting materials and number of years before tapping starts showed a high significant relationship with the income of rubber growers. Results elaborated that there was an average price of ₱17 for rolling and hilly areas while P16 in flat area but rolling areas has the highest production of 376kg/ha. The overall results for profitability revealed that the rubber growing in Mindanao across agro-ecological zones earned an average of 33.17% of total sales. Rubbers production average was 344kg/ha and average price P17. prices reached to as high as P21 and low of P12. Among the ecological zones considered in the study, rolling areas showed highest net income per hectare. Trees of ages 11-15 years of also showed the highest net income per hectare.
