บทคัดย่อ: ในงานวิจัยครั้งนี้ได้ศึกษาอนุกรมวิธานของปลานกแก้วครอบครัว Scaridae ที่พบในน่านน้ำไทย โดยเก็บตัวอย่งตั้งแต่เดือนธันวาคม 2539 ถึงเดือนมกราคม 2541 รวบรวมตัวอย่งได้ทั้งสิ้น 131 ตัวอย่าง จากทั้งอ่าวไทยและทะเลอันดามัน นอกจากนี้ได้ดำน้ำสำรวจชนิด ศึกษาชีววิทยาและพฤติกรรมบางประการของปลานกแก้วที่พบ บันทึกภาพดวยกล้องถ่ายภาพใต้น้ำและกล้องวีดีทัศน์ และได้ศึกษาตัวอย่างที่เก็บไว้ตามพิพิธภัณฑ์อ้างอิงและห้องเก็บตัวอย่างของสถาบันต่าง ๆ พบปลานกแก้วทั้งสิ้น 22 ชนิด ประกอบด้วยปลานกแก้วที่สามารถเก็บตัวอย่างใหม่ได้ 12 ชนิด ทั้งหมดอยู่ในสกุล Scarus ได้แก่ S.ghobban, S.globiceps, S.fepanensis, S.niger, S.oedema, S.prasiognathos, S.quoyi, S.rivulatus, S.rubroviolaceus, S.sordidus, S.troschelli และ S.viridifucatus และสามารถบันทึกภาพไต้น้ำของปลานกแก้วที่ไม่สามารถเก็บตัวอย่างได้ 7 ชนิด 2 สกุล คือ Scarus 6 ชนิด ได้แก่ S.ferugeneus, S.frenatus, S.strongylocephalus, S.russelli, S.scaber, S.tricolor, และ Cetoscarus 1 ชนิด ได้แก่ C.bicolor รวมทั้งพบตัวอย่างที่สึกษาจากห้องเก็บตัวอย่งและพิพิธภัณฑ์อ้างอิง ซึ่งไม่สามารถเก็บตัวอย่าง บันทึกภาพ หรือสำรวจพบในการศึกษาครั้งนี้ 3 ชนิด ได้แก่ S.javanicus Calotomus viridescens และ S.rhoduropterusการศึกษาครั้งนี้พบปลานกแก้วที่ไม่เคยมีรายงานในน่านน้ำไทยมาก่อน 3 ชนิด คือ S.ferugeneus, S.globiceps และ S.oedema จากผลการศึกษาได้บรรยายลักษณะของปลานกแก้วที่พบในน่านน้ำไทย แต่ละสกุลและชนิด พร้อมทั้งได้เสนอข้อมูลในลักษณะคู่มือประกอบรูปภาพในการจำแนกชนิดของปลานกแก้วที่ทำการศึกษา
บทคัดย่อ (EN): family Scaridae, inhabiting in Thai waters. It is based partialy on field materials collected 131 specimens between December 1986 to January 1988 from various parts in the Gulf of Thailand and the Andaman Sea, as well as those specimens deposited in several institutions in Thailand.Twenty-two species or three general of parot fishes were studied, but twelve species : S.ghobban, S.globiceps, S.fepanensis, S.niger, S.oedema, S.prasiognathos, S.quoyi, S.rivulatus, S.rubroviolaceus, S.sordidus, S.troschelli and S.viridifucatus were collected in the field. Seven species : S.ferugeneus, S.frenatus, S.strongylocephalus, S.russelli, S.scaber, S.tricolor and Cetoscarus bicolor were identified by means of photographing and underwater videophotographing. Three species : S.javanicus, S.rhoduropterus and Calotomus viridescens, were specimens found in most institutions.Scarus ferugeneus, S.globiceps and s>oedema were not found in the record in Thai waters. An illustrated key to genera and species, photographs and drawings were also provided, in conjunction with a systematic accounts of each species including illustrations.
