บทคัดย่อ (EN): White root disease of rubber trees caused by Rigidoporus microporus (Fr.) Overeem is the most destructive root disease in rubber plantations, damaging young trees during the early stages as well as mature trees. This study was conducted in 2008-2010 to improve the strategies that are easy and convenience for the rubber farmers to control white root disease at the early planting stages. Soils treating with different kinds of fertilizers were studied in 6 months rubber tree-budded stumps using both artificial and natural (planting in a disease infected area) inoculations. The artificial inoculation, silicon powder, sulfur powder and 4 kinds of fertilizers viz. rock phosphate, triple-superphosphate, urea and ammonium sulfate were tested with concentrations of 0.25, 0.5 and 1.0 percent by weight per volume of soil planted. The results showed that rock phosphate, silicon powder, 0.25-0.5 percent of triple-superphosphate and 0.25 percent of urea had no efficacy to inhibit the fungus growth, thus the trees were infected. The fungus inoculums were completely eliminated in 1.0 percent of triple-superphosphate, 0.5-1.0 percent of urea and all concentrations of ammonium sulfate and sulfur. These agents had the efficacy to prevent the rubber plants attacked from the fungus. The natural inoculation trial, ammonium sulfate, urea, sulfur and triple-superphosphate fertilizers were tested with concentrations of 100, 200 and 300 gram/planting hole. The results of interval 18 months after planted showed that young rubber stumps in soil amended with triple-superphosphate were infected by the disease and died, whereas in soil amended with sulfur powder, ammonium sulfate and urea showed that 92-100 percent of the budded stumps were not infected, which was significantly different when compared to the control. Thus, they can be applied to protect young rubber plants from the attack of white root disease; however, using urea and sulfur powder must be very careful because they are poisonous to the plants at the early stages.
