บทคัดย่อ (EN): The rubber tree is known to be a carbon sink and we can therefore sequester carbon from the atmosphere while also producing a valuable natural product. However, the natural rubber industry requires a dedicated tool whereby these environmental benefits can be quantified and communicate in accordance with international standards, in particular the Greenhouse Gas Protocol Standard. With the development of the Enviro$martTM software management tool, the Malaysian rubber industry aims to empower growers to manage down their environmental footprint but at the same time also improve their productivity and profitability. Herewith we can execute the mantra that “sustainability must pay to be sustainable”. It appears that the natural rubber industry has not capitalized on the ‘green’ credentials of the product, and this certification tool will enable the industry to do that by communicating the actual impact improvements. Profitability is a driver for sustainability, and efficiency is a driver for precision farming. This paper will show how a rubber plantation can achieve overall sustainability through the application of the Enviro$martTM Calculator.
