บทคัดย่อ (EN): Background: Dengue is the major problem of public health in Thailand leading to abundantly fatal cases. Now vaccine is available whereas low efficacy against serotype-2 and valuable in seropositive individuals, whilst lack of practical testing. Objectives: To review of dengue in children about prevalence, demographic data, diagnosis, serotype and its collelation including primary/secondary infection classified by age group; apply data in clinical use of dengue vaccine. Materials and Methods: Retrospectively reviewed all patients <15 year-old who were serologically confirmed dengue infection at Pranangklao hospital during 1 July 2005-31 December 2015. Results: There were 1,336 cases per reviewd (female 50.8%). The mean age was 9.6±3.3 year (min-max; 0.1-14.8 year); 1,031 cases had clinical diagnosis: DF (30.4%), DHF (66.2%), DSS (3.4%). 861 cases who were clearly classified of infection (primary infection 139 cases and secondary infection 722 cases); 465 cases (54%) in age group >10-15 years were primary infection 66 cases and secondary infection 399 cases. 810 cases who were identifed virus by RT-PCR and/or viral isolation; DENV-1 was predominant serotype (51.5%) followed by DENV-3 (23.1%), DENV-2 (18.7%) and DENV-4 (6.3%) respectively. Mainly serotypes of DHF/DSS were DENV-2 in primary infection and DENV-1 in secondary infection. Conclusion: Dengue is move forward to affect early adolescence, more than 50% of dengue-experienced cases are around 10-15 year-old furthermore largely causative by serotype-1. Severe dengue depend on multifactor. Hopefully, this data help to consider dengue vaccination among Thai children.
