บทคัดย่อ (EN): RSV is the most common respiratory viral pathogens among Thai children under 5 years and their lower respiratory tract infections (LRTI) were confirmed with RSV and influenza infection 29.4% and 7.3 %. However, little is known about the clinical and epidemiological aspects of hospitalized RSV infection especially among young Thai infants who are at the highest risk of severe respiratory diseases. WHO National Influenza Center, Thai NIC has been established since 1972 at NIH, DMSc, Thailand and upgrade to be Regional Influenza Reference Laboratory (RIRL) for SEA Region by WHO since 22 June 2010. Thailand has enhanced sentinel surveillance system for influenza since 2004 with supported by US-CDC until 2014. At present, the existing influenza surveillance system has been conducted by Department of Medical Sciences (Thai NIC) and Department of Diseases Control (BoE).The system routinely collects clinical specimens from sentinel sites around the country and routinely performs realtime PCR, influenza virus characterization (HI, gene sequencing), drug resistance monitoring, and submits clinical samples, viral isolates and unsubtypable isolates to WHO CCs. Objectives of the RSV surveillance in Thailand aims to understand seasonality, age groups at risk including the base line data for vaccine policy decision once vaccine becomes available.
