บทคัดย่อ (EN): and suggests that the population of wild water buffalo has not grown despite significant conservation efforts over the last fifteen years.Preliminary observations suggest that the location of the population may be a factor in the population's failure to thrive. Seemingly high predation rates for adult buffalo may reflect theanimal's vulnerability in needing to spend long periods during the dry season near the HKK River - the only substantial water source. Further, the arrival of calves in the wet season near the HKK River during the period of peak flooding makes the loss of newborns to drowning a likely possibility.Recommendations are made for the translocation of a small herd of wild water buffalo to Thung Yai Naresuan Wildlife Sanctuary, and the initiation of a new population. The single population in HKK, in contact with domestics as it is, is vulnerable to disease and ultimately the threat of extinction. Further, there is reason to believe the population's restriction to a fairly narrow strip near the HKK River may predispose it to higher than normal mortality rates.
