บทคัดย่อ (EN): Although rubber is traditionally being cultivated for latex, its importance has now been extended for timber production and the mitigation option of climate change by fixing atmospheric CO2. This provides an avenue of planting rubber in reforestation/aforestation programmes for additional financial support. At present, rubber cultivation is based on the harvesting potential of latex. However with given priority for timber and CO2 fixation, its focus may change. In this view, capability of producing timber and fixing CO2 at different growth stages of rubber are to be understood. In this context, the present study was aimed to assess the financial importance of rubber cultivation with given consideration to the timber production and carbon fixation. Based on the models developed for ontogenetic tree diameter expansion and allometric functions, timber log production and CO2 fixed in rubber trees were estimated. Thereafter, financial viability of rubber cultivation was assessed under key scenarios. Practicality of using rubber in forestation programmes for carbon market is discussed.
