บทคัดย่อ (EN): Corynespora leaf fall disease is an economically important desease in natural rubber producing countries. An new approach to biologically control of this disease was attempted with the use of phylloplane actinomycetes from the rubbertrees (Hevea brasiliensis). A total of 48 phylloplane actinomhycete isolates were isolated, in vitro screened for their antagonism against Crynespora cassiicila, causal agent of Corynespora leaf fall disease. Out of them, 14 isolates were found to be antagonistic to C. cassiicola and 10 of them were evaluated for the antifungal activities and production of cell wall degrading enzymes such as chitinase and cellulose, The percentage inhibition on the mycelia growth of C. cassicola ranged from 35.8% to 55.9% with the significant difference among the actionmycete isolates (P<0.01). The antifungal activites of actinomycetes isolate PA37 was highest among the actinomycete isolates and was found to be higher than that of recommended dose of chemical fungicide containing hexaconazole as active ingredient. Besides, several actinomycete isolates such as PA43, PA53 and PA55 showed the antifungal activities as high as hexaconazole (P<0.01). The antifungal activities of the studied actinomycete isolates did not depend on the production of chitinase and cellulose but the other bioactive compounds or other manners of mechanism. More actinomyetes should be isolated and brought into studies so that highly antagonistic isolates that adapt to the plant’s surface can be achieved and subsequently evaluated for the potential to control C.cassiicola.
