บทคัดย่อ (EN): Shortage of skilled harvesters, escalating cost of production and high level of bark consumption leading to poor yields and shorter replanting cycles are among the major issues in rubber plantation industry. To address these issues whilst sustaining the yield, a stimulation protocol was developed for tapping a half spiral of the tree once in four days (S/2 d4) and introduced to Sri Lankan rubber plantation industry. Over the five year period, average yield of S/2 d4 system was 99% and varied between 96% -1035% of the yield of traditional S/2 d2 system. Average dry rubber content of latex was above 35% at all the time in S/2 d4 and S/2 d2 harvesting systems and incidence of tapping panel dryness was 8.9% and 8.7%, respectively in S/2 d4 and S/2 d2 systems. Under rainguarded condition actual tapping days observed in S/2 d4 and S/2 d2 systems were 82 and 154, respectively. When compared to S/2 d2 system total area of bark consumed for a one year period was 43% lesser in S/2 d4 system. Under S/2 d4 harvesting growth of rubber tree were not affected adversely. Average intake per harvester (IPH) was 8.15kg in S/2 d2 system whilst it was 15.19kg in S/2 d4 system. Increased IPH had resulted 29% increase in daily wage of a harvester due to extra amount of rubber harvested over the norm. When compared to the traditional S/2 d2 harvesting system, adoption of S/2 d4 system has reduced the cost of production (COP) by LKR 19.40 and increased the net profit per hectare of rubber land by 99%.
