บทคัดย่อ (EN): Vulcanization is the most important stage in the manufacture of rubber products bymeans of which the properties inherent in rubber are fully realized. The basic aim of developing a vulcanizing system is to produce vulcanizates with maximum physical and chemical properties. The overall aim of this research is to develop a highly effective room temperature curing system for natural rubber (NR) latex based compounds so that energy consumption during vulcanization at elevated temperatures will be eliminated. The rubber products manufacturers those who are carrying out small scale cottage industries will be specially benefited by this due to the reduction in the cost production of the articles. A series of NR latex based compounds was prepared by varying the amounts of accelerators in the sulphur vulcanizing system. Twelve different combinations of the three accelerators ZDC,ZMBT and DPG were tried out. Time taken for vulcanization at room temperatute was measured. Cross-link formation was assessed by swelling measurements. Mechanical properties of the room temperature vulcanized films were evaluated. Further, the cast films were aged at 700C for 168 hours and the above mentioned properties were evaluated. The results revealed that the time required to vulcanize at room temperature can be minimized by using the sulphur vulcanizing system with the accelerator ratio 1: 1 : 0.5 ZDC : MBT : DPG as it is the fastest acceleration combination among the twelve combinations taken into consideration. Also, the cast films produced using this combination exhibited excellent tensile properties and tear strength.It could be concluded that the sulphur vulcanizing system with the above mentioned acceleratorratio is a highly effective room temperature vulcanizing system in terms of rate of vulcanization, cost and strength properties for NR latex based compounds used in the manufacture of cast products, dipped products, rubberized-coir products, latex foam,etc.
