บทคัดย่อ (EN): Rubber is one of the most important crops in the Philippines. Production is mainly concentrated in Mindanao. However, in the global scenario, the Philippine remains a minor player in the rubber industry. From the recently crafted PCAARRD Industry Strategic Plan for rubber, it was established that one of the constraints in increasing production volume and expansion of rubber plantations/area is low productivity due to senile/aging trees, unavailability of quality planting materials and low adoption of superior promising clones, among others. In addition, mislabeling of clones in commercial nurseries is also a problem. In view of this, a DA-BAR funded project on DNA fingerprinting of the Philippine rubber germplasm to accurately label them was carried out and completed thus a handbook on the molecular profile of each clone was published as reference material. As a spin off of this project, validation of the varietal integrity of promising rubber clines through SSR markers using the output of the first project is now ongoing. The objectives of the project are: assess existing commercial nurseries and determine clones being commercialized, validate labeling of promising high-yielding/superior clones using DNA markers, certify genetic identity of recommended rubber clones different in nurseries and to assist the Philippine Bureau of Plant Industry in the accreditation of the commercial rubber nurseries. At present, 160 nurseries all over the Philippines had been visited and assessed. Molecular characterization of the clones had also been done. The following were observed: 1) 35 rubber clones are actually planted in these nurseries, 2) Most popular clones planted are RMM600, PB260, USM Var 1, PB330, and 3) Some nurseries had mislabeled clones.
