บทคัดย่อ (EN): Rubber plantation in Viet Nam are facing with the issues of tapper shortage, high production cost of latex and the need of increasing income of tappers. A low frequency tapping system has proposed to overcome these issues. However, studies on the impacts on the income of tappers, tapping productivity, production cost of latex, and possibility of improving these indicators for rubber plantations have been missing in literature, especially for the case of Vietnam. Our study investigated the impacts of the low frequency tapping system on the income of tappers and the production cost of latex and conducted a sensitivity analysis of the unit tapping wage and yield performance on the income of tappers and the production cost of latex. The tapping productivity and the requirement of tappers have also been considered under the two tapping systems. The results shown that the d4 taping system saves 25.0% the demand for tappers compared to the d3 tapping system. Although the yield performance decreases 2.4% under the d4 taping system, the tapping productivity increases 30.1% as a combined results of a lower tapping frequency and an increase in stimulation treatment. Such an increase in productivity improves the income of tappers by 8.1% and the production cost of rubber latex by 11.1% under the unchanged welfare conditions for tappers. We identified the breakeven point of decrease in yield of 6.54% without any change in the unit tapping wage and the breakeven point of 5.52% increase in unit tapping wage without any change in yield performance to keep the production cost of latex unaffected in the adoption of shifting the tapping system from d3 to d4. The low frequency tapping system of d4 is a potential solution to reduce the production cost of rubber latex and enhance benefits for tappers under the plantation and latex production with high economic of scale.
