บทคัดย่อ (EN): The objective of this research was to investigate an appropriate number knot of linear spline function for genetic evaluation of test-day egg production in the first to sixth generation (G1-G6) of Thai native chicken (Pradu Hang Dam). Total of 7,897 monthly egg production records of 659 Thai native chicken during 2007 to 2014 were used to study. Data was obtained through the Research and Development Network Center for Animal Breeding (Native Chicken), Faculty of Agriculture, Khon Kaen University, Thailand. In this study, four models were used for analysis of co-variance functions including linear splines function 4 knots (SP4), 5 knots (SP5), 6 knots (SP6), and 8 knots (SP8), respectively. All co-variance functions were nested within both additive genetic and permanent environmental random effects. Variance components were estimated by Average Information-Restricted Maximum Likelihood (AI-REML) method. Based on the goodness of fit considering to negative 2 log likelihood (-2logL) and Akaike’s Information Criterion (AIC) and coefficient of determination (R2 ), SP4 of linear spline function had the best fit model for genetic evaluation of egg production curve in this population. The estimated monthly heritability ranged from 0.11 to 0.48. The highest heritability found in second month of the egg production periods. Genetic correlations between monthly egg numbers ranged from 0.61 to 0.85. In conclusion, SP4 spline function can describe appropriated genetic curve of egg production in native chickens and could be applied to breeding program and were consisted with improving both egg numbers and persistence of egg production in this population.
